Site rules
Turn shortcuts, suggestions, or emoji off for a whole website, a single page, or one field.
Site rules let you turn SimpleFill’s automatic features on or off for a whole website, a single page, or even one field. Keep everything on in general, and switch off just what gets in the way.
What you can control
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Shortcut expansion | Expands saved shortcuts as you type |
| Auto-suggestions | Shows matching saved values while you type |
| Emoji expansion | Finds and inserts emoji when you type a colon |
Add a rule
- Go to Settings > General > Site rules and click Manage.
- Under Website or page URL, type where the rule applies:
example.comfor every page of the siteexample.com/for the homepage onlyexample.com/accountfor that page only
- Under Apply to, choose:
- All fields on these pages, then tick the Enabled features
- Fields matching a CSS selector or Fields matching an XPath, to target particular fields
- Click Add rule.
For a field rule, each feature can be Enabled, Disabled, or Use website settings, which follows the site’s rule, or your general settings if there isn’t one.
Examples
| Rule | Why |
|---|---|
app.slack.com: Emoji expansion off | Slack has its own emoji picker |
linkedin.com/feed: Auto-suggestions off | Keeps the feed’s search and comments clear |
github.com, field input[name="q"]: Shortcut expansion off | Lets you search for text that starts with ; |
How rules are matched
http, https, andwww.don’t matter:example.comcovers all of them.- Subdomains need their own rules:
forms.example.comisn’t covered byexample.com. - A page rule also covers the same page with anything after
?or#. Include a?part to match it exactly. - Field rules win over page and site rules, and more specific pages win over less specific ones.
- Each website or page can have one rule.
What rules don’t switch off
Rules control the automatic features. The things you start yourself keep working everywhere: Quick Access, the right-click menu, AI actions run from the menu, and saved forms.
For website owners
If you run a website and want SimpleFill’s automatic features off on part of it, add an attribute to the element:
| Attribute | Turns off |
|---|---|
data-simplefill-disable="true" | All automatic features |
data-simplefill-disable-shortcuts="true" | Shortcut expansion |
data-simplefill-disable-autosuggestions="true" | Auto-suggestions |
data-simplefill-disable-emoji="true" | Emoji expansion |
It applies to the element and everything inside it, including iframes and shadow roots.
<div data-simplefill-disable="true">
<!-- SimpleFill stays out of the way in here -->
</div>
