Using SimpleFill

Auto-suggestions

Matching snippets appear under a field as you type, ready to insert with a click or the Enter key.

Auto-suggestions find the right snippet as you type, without a shortcut. Start typing in a form field, and SimpleFill shows a dropdown of saved snippets that match. Pick one, and it fills the field.

How it works

  1. Click in an input box, like a Name or Email field on a form.
  2. Start typing. SimpleFill shows snippets whose name or text contains what you’ve typed.
  3. Press the Down arrow to highlight a suggestion and Enter to fill it, or click it.

Nothing is highlighted until you press Down, so pressing Enter on its own still does whatever it normally would, like submitting a search.

Where suggestions appear

By default, suggestions appear in single-line input boxes and show single-line snippets. You can widen that in Settings:

SettingWhat it changes
Include multi-line text in auto-suggestionsAlso suggests multi-line and rich snippets
Show auto-suggestions in textarea fieldsAlso shows suggestions in larger text areas
Add a tab when using auto-suggestions dropdownMoves to the next field after you pick with Enter (on by default)

Suggestions never appear in password fields.

Turn them off

  • Everywhere: switch off Enable auto-suggestions in Settings.
  • For one field, for now: close the dropdown. It stays closed for that field until you reload the page.
  • On certain sites, pages, or fields: add a site rule.

Auto-suggestions or shortcuts?

Use whichever feels natural. Shortcuts are fastest for the things you use every day. Auto-suggestions shine for details you don’t have a shortcut for, or on long forms where you can glide from field to field.
