Rich text editor

Format snippets with headings, lists, tables, links, images, and more, and keep that formatting when they expand.

Turn on Rich / Dynamic Value on a snippet (or Rich / Dynamic Content on a Block) to write with the rich text editor. It gives you real formatting, and it’s where you add the pills that make a snippet dynamic.

Formatting

The toolbar has what you’d expect from a modern editor:

ToolWhat it does
Text styleParagraph, Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Code, Code block
Font and sizeArial, Georgia, Verdana, Courier New, and more, from 8 to 48 px
ColorsText color and Highlight, each with a reset
EmphasisBold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, and Clear text formatting
AlignmentLeft, center, right, and justify
Lists and moreBullet list, Numbered list, Quote, Horizontal line
LinksWeb, mailto:, and tel: links, with or without an underline
ImagesInsert by HTTPS link, or upload a GIF, JPEG, PNG, or WebP up to 10 MB
TablesData tables, or Borderless layout tables for side-by-side columns
CardsA box with its own background, padding, border, and corners

Uploaded images are resized to at most 1,200 pixels wide and compressed, so your snippets stay light. Click an image to set its size, alignment, border, corners, alt text, or a link.

Add Fields, Smart Fields, and Blocks

This is where the editor shines. You can add three kinds of pills:

  • Type {{ to pick a Field, a Smart Field, a calculation, an If / Else, a key press, or a Click.
  • Type @ to pick a Block. This works in snippets; Blocks can’t contain other Blocks.
  • Or use the Insert field menu in the toolbar, which groups everything: Basic Fields, Calculations, Conditions, Custom Fields, the Smart Fields by category, like Page and Date & Time, Key Presses, Mouse Actions, and each add-on’s fields under its name, like HubSpot.

Pills look like small labels in your text. When the snippet is inserted, each pill is replaced with its value.

Pill settings

Click a pill to open its settings:

  • Alias: A display name for this pill only. If you use the same Field twice, SimpleFill names the copies for you, like Name 2.
  • Transforms: Steps that reshape the value before it goes in, run top to bottom. See Transforms.
  • Field settings: For a one-off Basic Field, its type, default, and options.
  • Link fields: Make two pills share one value, so you only fill it in once.

Click Save changes when you’re done.

Basic Fields: one-off blanks

For a blank only one snippet needs, choose Insert field > Basic Fields instead of creating a Custom Field. It lives only inside this snippet. See Basic and Custom Fields.

What can’t go in rich content

For safety, SimpleFill keeps a known set of formatting and strips anything else when you save: scripts, forms, embedded frames, and links to unsafe addresses never make it into a snippet. Images must use HTTPS or be uploaded.
