Getting started with SimpleFill: fill any form in two clicks
Install SimpleFill, save your first form data, and fill any input field with a right-click or an auto-suggestion. A complete walkthrough for every supported browser.
Filling out the same name, email, and address for the hundredth time is a small tax you pay all over the web. Your browser's built-in autofill is supposed to handle it, but it guesses at the wrong fields, ignores large text areas, and gives you no real way to edit what it saved.
SimpleFill takes a different approach: you decide what gets saved, and you decide which value goes into which field. This guide walks you from installing the extension to filling your first form.
Install the extension
SimpleFill is available in every major extension store:
If you use a Chromium-based browser like Brave or Vivaldi, install it from the Chrome Web Store — it works there too.
A note on permissions
During installation your browser will ask you to allow SimpleFill to "read and change all your data on websites that you visit". That sounds broad, because it is the only permission browsers offer for this kind of work: to fill an input field, an extension has to be able to see and modify the page.
SimpleFill does not read or store anything from your browsing activity. Your saved data stays in your browser's local storage and is never uploaded to a server. Only your extension settings use the browser's built-in sync, and you can turn that off in your browser settings if you'd rather they stayed on one machine.
Save your first form data
There's no setup screen to hunt for. Everything starts from a right-click:
- Right-click any input field or text area on any page.
- Choose SimpleFill → Add form data... from the context menu.
- Enter your details — a label and the value you want to fill.
- Click Add.

Fill a form
Once you've saved something, there are two ways to use it. Both work on any input field, including multi-line text areas.
Right-click to fill
Right-click the field, open the SimpleFill menu, and pick the value you want. It drops straight into the field. This is the precise option — you're choosing the exact entry, so there's no guessing involved.
Auto-suggestions as you type
Start typing, and SimpleFill compares what you've entered against your saved
entries and shows the best matches in a dropdown below the field. Click one, or
use the ↑ ↓ arrow keys and Enter to pick without leaving the keyboard.
The important difference from browser autofill: suggestions are matched against what you're actually typing, not generic guesses based on the field type.
If you'd rather not see the dropdown at all, go to SimpleFill → Add form data... → Settings and uncheck Enable auto-suggestions.

The multi-line case is the one people notice first. If you regularly paste the same cover letter, bug report template, or support reply, autofill simply won't help — SimpleFill treats those like any other saved entry.
Keep things organised
As your list grows, two features keep it manageable:
- Folders — group entries by context, like personal details, work details, or a client you fill forms for often.
- Reordering — drag entries so the ones you use most sit at the top, which also puts them first in the right-click menu.
Coming from an older version?
If you used an earlier version of SimpleFill and exported your data, you don't have to retype it. Upload your old JSON file to the Form Data Converter, and it will be converted to the current format so you can import it straight back in.
What's free and what isn't
The free plan covers up to 5 form data items and 2 folders, which is enough for the basics like your name, email, and phone number. Auto-suggestions work on the free and Standard plans too, but only draw from your first 5 items.
Upgrading lifts those limits: Standard adds unlimited items, unlimited folders, and import/export, while Pro adds multi-line text support and auto-suggestions across every saved item. You can see the full breakdown in the pricing section on the home page.
