WHAT HAPPENED

After a routine deploy at 1:05 PM UTC, one email worker stopped picking up jobs. The queue grew until alerts fired at 1:12 PM, and notifications were delayed by up to 40 minutes.

ROOT CAUSE
The new worker image read its queue name from an environment variable that the deploy didn’t set, so it listened to an empty queue.
